Guilford PTA Mission Statement

The Guilford Parent-Teacher Association is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan association whose mission is to be a collective voice for Guilford Public School students, parents, and teachers.  The Guilford PTA recognizes that which is working well, identifies areas of concern, and provides valuable resources toward solutions.  The GPTA relies on its membership to work together with the Guilford Board of Education, Administration, PTO’s, parents, teachers, and community members and organizations to enhance and improve educational opportunities for all students.  In advocating for our students, parents, and teachers, and empowering parents to be a voice for their children, the GPTA expects to increase student performance at all levels and to promote the continuous improvement in the quality of Guilford’s public schools.

GPTA 2008-2009 Programs

• Forum on Education
  State Senate and House of Representative Candidates
  October 6, 2008, Monday, 7:30 pm, Community Center
  
• Galvanized Jazz Band Concert
  October 28, 2008 ,Tuesday, 7:30 pm Guilford High School Auditorium

  *This concert is now being hosted by the high school as a free concert. To all those who purchased tickets, you may send them to Melissa Lamoreaux, GPTA Treasurer, 453 Goose Lane, Guilford, CT 06437 for a prompt refund by mail.  Please be sure to include your name, address, telephone number and the total amount that you paid for the tickets. We apologize for any inconvenience.

• "Get to know" Destination Imagination meeting - November 2008
  Information session for prospective participants. Mandatory meeting for all team managers and parents. 
  
• Reflections Art Program - January 2009
  National program includes competitions in Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Musical   Composition, Dance and Film/Video Production.  **Judges needed!** 
  
• Get Out the Vote Campaign - March/April 2009 
  
• Turn Off Week & Guilford Clean-up Weekend - April 2009

• Increasing Parental Involvement on GPS Committees
  
• Support Non-Partisan Boards of Education
  
• Promote Youth Awareness Day
  
• Work with GPS to establish an appeals process for students that are denied entrance to  accelerated programs.
  
• Support CT legislation for increased funding for Gifted and Talented programs
  
• Follow -up on middle school recess initiative
