About the Guilford PTA
The Guilford PTA was formed in November 2003, to bring parents, teachers, and our community together, to discuss and improve district wide issues. Since all district schools are represented through
membership, we have the resources at hand to understand and act upon issues, at all academic levels. In our short history, we are proud of our accomplishments, including:
• Member's communication on the GPTA List Serve with open, spirited discussions on current district events and issues.
• Educating the public about the Board of Ed (BOE) budget, and encouraging voter participation.
• Communicating openly and publicly about issues affecting the entire district such as world languages, daily unstructured recess, talented and gifted education and the budget.
• Lobbying the BOE to move the public input portion of the budget process earlier in the year, resulting in a BOE public budget forums beginning in October each year, instead of late January.
• Meeting with the State DOE representatives to learn how to integrate best practices of other districts into GPS. Participating in the Science Curriculum Review Committee.
• Guilford PTA members have served, or currently serve, on numerous BOE Committees and Boards such as:
• The Board of Education
• The GPS Strategic Plan Steering Committee
• The Community Task Force for School Facilities
as well as on other educationally related committees.
