Quotes From Our Members
"Guilford PTA has been the most effective advocacy group in Guilford, improving the quality of education for students. Such improvements are in the
areas of K-12 foreign language instruction, technology, professional development, special education facilities, health issues, class size - you name it and the Guilford PTA has been right in the
middle of making sure that decisions are made in the best interests of Guilford students. Guilford needs more involved parents like the volunteers who serve on the Guilford PTA."
Ted Zuse - Guilford Board of Education
"The Guilford PTA Special Education committee has received a warm welcome to our town. For years, parents had nowhere to get educated on the complexities of the special education
journey. The parent workshops have been terrific. Having the necessary knowledge on the laws, rights and available methods to educate a child, I feel very confident going into my team
meetings and PPTs. Networking with other parents and sharing information gives us one voice, which is much more powerful. It can literally change the lives of our children."
Kim Beckett - GPTA Co-President
“Since the establishment of the Guiford PTA Special Education Committee in January 2008, I have seen parents unite as a group to become educated. Joining the Guilford PTA has allowed me to collaborate with a group of parents who have similar goals and values regarding both regular and special education students. The workshops that have been provided by the Special Education Committee have proven to be beneficial in many ways. Working together, I feel we can all make a difference in the lives of our children." Jennifer Ryan - GPTA Co-President
"The Guilford PTA was successful in its quest to add a 20 minute mandatory recess for those 5th and 6th graders at Baldwin Middle School. The lack of recess at Baldwin had been an issue
of concern to parents for many years. The Board of Education had organized committees and sub-committees to investigate the situation and how it may be remedied. Eventually, the GPTA and
other parents insisted that action be taken by writing to Board of Education members and signing a petition which included over 300 names. At a special meeting called by Dr. Forcella over the
summer, parents were pleased to hear that the Administration had worked out the kinks and by adding a few minutes to the school day, and shortening class periods by a minute or so each....they would
be able to offer a full 20 minutes of recess to students starting this September. This is a perect example of why the GPTA is such a valuable place for parents to come together. We got
the job done."
Michelle Raiti - GPTA Member
"As a past PTA president, I understand the value that this organization can bring to our district. I joined the Guilford PTA to help our community realize greater challenges and goals for our
children as they progress through our schools."
CD
I joined the Guilford PTA because I want to help elevate Guilford districtwide to "excellence" status. By joining, I can work on advocating on behalf of our children, to advance district
curriculum issues."
DW
"I joined the Guilford PTA, to participate in district-wide initiatives, with parents who are dealing with topics of common interest. For instance, offering World Languages in K-12, is of
importance to many local parents and the Guilford PTA was the place to organize an effort to bring it into our Guilford Public Schools."
